What is skipwith hall?

Skipwith Hall is a Grade II listed Georgian country house located near the village of Escrick in North Yorkshire, England. The house was built in the early 18th century for Thomas Rich, a wealthy merchant from London, and has since been owned by various families, including the Skipwiths and the Thompsons.

The house features characteristic Georgian architecture, with a symmetrical facade and a grand entrance hall. It is surrounded by landscaped grounds, including a walled garden, a lake, and a small wood.

During World War II, Skipwith Hall was used as a base for American troops, and some of the buildings on the estate were used as a prisoner of war camp.

In 2016, the house was put up for sale with an asking price of £2.75 million. It has since been sold, and it is not open to the public.
